Nowadays, people are beginning to pay attention to and advocate for dignity and basic rights in various issues related to the value of life, especially at the end of life. There are many documents related to the right to life care that have been brought to the attention of the public again, one of which is a document that many Chinese people are not familiar with and find quite confusing – the Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST). The most common example of when documents are presented by the hospital staff to be signed by the patient or family members in some extraordinary circumstances – this is one of them. Sandy Chen Stokes, RN, MSN, founder and current board chair of CACCC, discusses with the audience what kind of document this is and how we should look at it to ensure the quality of life and treatment for our family members or ourselves.
